A strong mind is engendered by great aspirations, and a resolute mind by wisdom. People must work hard and earn money before they can afford things they desire; likewise, a practitioner must constantly study hard and reflect on what he or she has learned before he or she amass the wealth of good dharma and virtue. Have you spent as much time and energy on Buddhist practice as you do in earning money?
Q:  Master, I send you my most humble greetings! If I do or watch something because I am fond of it, is this a kind of attachment? A: Anything you can't let go of is an attachment.
Q: Master, I feel myself mentally weak and irresolute. How  should I improve myself? A: A strong mind is engendered by great aspirations, and a resolute mind by wisdom. People must work hard and earn money before they can afford things they desire; likewise, a practitioner must constantly study hard and reflect on what he or she has learned before he or she amass the wealth of good dharma and virtue. Have you spent as much time and energy on Buddhist practice as you do in earning money?
Q: Greetings Master! There’s something I‘ve tried hard to achieve, but without result. Is this because I didn't put in enough effort, or am I destined to fail in this matter? How do we distinguish attachment from persistence? A: When you are persistent, you work hard on the causes; when you are attached, you focus on the results.
Q: Master, no doubt the law of cause and effect is true. However, there are those who are truly evil to the point of lacking humanity. They have no love or thought for others in their hearts and, what’s more, they deeply harm innocent people, even defenceless children. When I see or hear about these things, I feel that more should be done, whether by countries or by ordinary people. I also hope that these evil doers will soon receive retribution! Master, is hatred for evil also a kind of attachment?  A: When it comes to hating evil, your hatred should be focused on evil itself, on the afflictions of greed, resentment and ignorance. If your hatred focuses on a person and you allow yourself to become filled with anger, then, without realising it, you yourself will become a part of evil. Darkness must be dispelled by light, otherwise we will become entangled in the cycle of rebirth and suffering.
